I cannot recall the exact time of the first time I watched Cinderella but I still remember covering my face with my parents' pillows as I looked at Cinderella kissing the prince in front of their fabulous wedding cake as they said "and they lived happily ever after". As a grown-up, I still remember the feeling I had: the feeling I got when I watched the romantic cartoon. This maybe is embarrassing but true. I believe most girls in the world carry the dream of being a cartoon princess and living happily ever after in their married life with their prince charming.

In Western societies the wedding cake has become a symbol of commitment, a representation of everything a wedding is meant to be. It signifies the sweetness of a union between two people. With that in mind there is pressure on the couple to have the perfect cake. It’s likely nobody will remember much about the food served at the wedding as the months pass, but the cake will long be remembered and talked about for it’s beauty and flavor, or lack thereof.

Here are some important things to take into account when trying to find that perfect cake for you:

Taste - The taste of your wedding cake is, to a certain extent, a matter of personal choice. The European wedding cake made with fruit is typically decorated with Royal Icing, but the more typical American wedding cake will use a type of butter-cream.

Design - Choosing a wedding cake should be fun; it is a perfect opportunity to make a statement, it is your party and you can have what you want.

Theme - If you have a theme, talk to a baker. They will be able to utilize a combination of cake props and fondant or frosting designs to create a design that is truly unique and reflective of your own personal style and theme. Use your imagination flavorings can add color as well as flavor. A well-designed cake will enhance your theme and bring the whole concept of the design together as the celebrations culminate with the cake.

You may have the cake of your dreams to go with a once in a lifetime event! And if you are daring enough, set a glass shoe miniature as your wedding cake topper or a pumpkin carriage candle alongside the cake as decoration so that you have a piece of Cinderella with you on your special day.
