2013 Graduating in Style

OK, I’ll admit it. I graduated back in the dark ages. 1982 was the year of my high school graduation and, well, those are days better left behind us... After all, it was difficult to fit those shoulder pads and poufy sleeves under our graduation gowns, not to mention the upturned collars, big hair and Culture Club!

Fast forward to 2012/2013 and think of all that has changed! Seniors graduating in 2013 will not have known life without the Internet, online shopping, changing the channel without a remote control or a time before The Simpsons. What they do know is turning their homework in digitally, Meme’s for every possible scenario, and phones you can carry in your pocket and don’t use just for phone calls.

The Graduating Class of 2013 is not interested in accepting the standard fare when it comes to announcing their graduations, either. To those among us who were born after 1995, individuality is akin to breathing, and standing out in a crowd has become a sport.

Now’s a great time to start thinking about the big celebration, before the stress of those last few months hits and you get caught up in winding down high school and revving up for the next chapter of life.

When discussing Senior Portraits with your photographer, think ahead about which poses will look best on your graduation announcement. Including photos on announcements is the most popular trend in stationery today and is sure to catch the eye of all recipients immediately. You’re no longer expected to use your school colors in your announcement (although that’s fine if you do). Today, anything goes! You could even showcase your future plans by utilizing the school colors and mascot of your chosen university on your announcement.

Memory Books with fill-in-the-blank pages? That’s so 20th century! Create your own memory album with custom-printed photo books from retailers like Shutterfly and Snapfish. This could be a great project to work on with friends throughout the year.

Send off your besties with playlists featuring all your shared faves for them to listen to while studying at college. They’ll always remember you and the good times.

Handmade is In! Check out the offerings on Etsy.com for unique senior jewelry and spirit clothing.

Theme parties are such fun and sure to be memorable! Start thinking about what theme you’d like to incorporate into your celebration and put dibs in now, before your friends announce their own.

Now that we’ve got you thinking, keep up the momentum by following our graduation board on Pinterest for more unique graduation ideas!
