A Beach-themed Baby Shower

Anyone who knows me knows that I just love decorating for parties! Whether it is a wedding, themed birthday party, or my annual Mother’s Day brunch, I live for this kind of thing! As you can imagine, I was absolutely thrilled when my girlfriend asked me to do the décor for her upcoming baby shower-oh yes, and desserts too, since I just love to bake.

Baby, Curtis Randall, is expected to arrive in June. His mother, Kristen, is going with an Under the Sea motif with colors of blue and brown for his room. I thought it would be fun to incorporate this theme at Kristen’s shower. The party will be held at a friend’s home in beautiful Summerland, California, which of course is by the sea. The property boasts a beautiful tropical garden and has a real Zen-like quality.

For the baby shower invitations, I think these Colorful Coral invitations from our wedding pages would be just perfect

and, being on recycled paper, they are eco-friendly which is very important to the mom-to-be!

I can continue the theme with life-like coral place card holders for the table, which will be set with sand-colored linens.

I’ll include white place cards printed with coral designs in Caribbean-blue ink.

For centerpieces, I’ll use cylinder vases filled with water, small rocks, tall green plants and shells.

Dessert tables are always fun and provide guests with many options to satisfy their sweet tooth! Continuing with the sea theme will be easy with some tropical cupcakes. I have a very easy coconut cake recipe; it’s actually a doctored box recipe (shhh!) with coconut added to the mix. The frosting is a classic cream cheese frosting, which truly makes the cupcake delicious. I’ll add blue food coloring to some and leave the rest white and finally, will top with shredded coconut. Blue and white M&M’s are fun and could also be personalized with Curtis’ name! Now, how fun is that? Chocolates, petit fours and other small and tasty treats will look great on cake stands, or placed inside inexpensive glass apothecary jars at varying heights.

Hanging baby clothes with clothespins on a makeshift clothesline always seems to bring a smile from guests. In this case, I think some baby beachwear would be appropriate: some blue onesies and tees, sun hats, and baby’s 1st pair of boardshorts would be perfect! Not only will they look adorable, but a part of the décor that will be used again and again by this sure to be beach-going baby!
