"We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love." -Robert Fulghum

Marriage is delightfully weird and amazing. As Robert Fulghum noted, love is finding that special person who complements our oddities. And making it through yet another blissful year together is most definitely worth celebrating.

Wedding anniversaries can be celebrated in a number of ways. From traditional to modern, the options are infinite. Although some may swear by tropical getaways or the traditional china and silverware, today I want to share a few ideas for simple celebrations that can fit any couple, on any budget, in any walk of life.

Don’t let the simplistic nature of these celebrations take away from the potentially extravagant emotional experience they will invoke. Celebrating anniversaries in sincere, uncomplicated fashion can be enjoyed by all. Here are a few uncomplicated but sincere ways to commemorate your special day.

Re-create your first date or revisit the place you first met.
My husband and I knew each other for years growing up, but we ran in different crowds and just never really connected personally until one day in our eleventh grade gym class when he asked me to play a game of HORSE --- and the rest is history. Playing HORSE is always a simple way for us to remember how we came to be the couple that we are today. Recreate your first meeting or your first “real” date. You’ll be amazed how easily the butterflies come alive once again.

Peruse Through Photos
Although any couple will enjoy this, going through photos from each year of wedded bliss would be especially enjoyable for couples who have been married for longer periods of time. Just imagine how looking through photos from each year of your marriage could bring back fond memories and rekindle that joy you may have forgotten.

Dream Together
This is such an easy, yet extremely precious way to spend an anniversary. Dream big together about long or short-term goals and even those lofty dreams that seem impossible. Talking about hopes and dreams is important, and it’s something married couples tend to put on the back burner while busy living “everyday” life.

Hit Up the Local Arcade
It’s way too much fun to let loose and forget to act your age. Skee-ball, laser tag, and whack-a-mole are even more enjoyable when you’re “too old” to play them. Plus, a little healthy competition helps couples get their flirt on.

Create Your Own
These ideas are only the tip of the iceberg. Use your imagination to come up with something that will be the perfect for you and your loved one. Most importantly, choose something that has special significance for you.
